PET vs. PI High-Temperature Labels: Selection Guide for Electronics Manufacturing
In electronics workshops, SMT assembly lines, and new energy battery production, high-temperature baking and reflow soldering processes all require heat-resistant labels. Many purchasing managers struggle to distinguish between PET matte silver high-temperature labels and PI polyimide labels. I. PET High-Temperature Labels (Standard High-Temp Grade)

Temperature Range: Long-term -40°C to 220°C; short-term peak 240°C
Advantages: Cost-effective; excellent matte/glossy silver appearance; resistant to alcohol and oil; high flexibility; compatible with various thermal transfer ribbons; readily available in standard sizes; ideal for large-volume asset labeling, battery outer packaging, and home appliance component tags.
Limitations: Cannot withstand temperatures above 250°C; unsuitable for SMT reflow oven processes.
Applications: Lithium battery casings, fixed asset management, automotive parts room-temperature baking, PCB room-temperature process labeling.

II. PI Polyimide High-Temperature Labels (Reflow-Specific)

Temperature Range: Long-term 260°C; short-term peak up to 320°C
Advantages: Maximum heat resistance; no yellowing, curling, or delamination during SMT reflow or wave soldering; stable coating; barcodes remain clear and scannable after high-temperature exposure; resistant to solder corrosion.
Limitations: Higher cost than PET; relatively brittle material; prone to cracking when large sizes are bent or folded.
Applications: PCB circuit boards, SMT assembly, chip components, high-temperature reflow process traceability labeling.

2.  Reflow soldering required, 260°C+ welding → Must use PI labels
